Our Mission
To provide free non-emergency medical and dental care, low cost or no-cost medications and access to free local social services to low income and uninsured adult individuals through a professional independent Free Clinic, organized, financed and staffed by volunteers, without undue influence from government or other outside organizations.
Our Services
The Barry Community Free Clinic serves uninsured adults (ages 18 and older) who have an income of less than twice the poverty guidelines as defined by the most recent federal data available from HHS (http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/11fedreg.shtml).Services include medical evaluations and treatment, dental evaluation and treatment, limited on-site labwork, referrals to participating local specialists and labs, pharmaceutical assistance plans, medical supplies (as available), and referrals to local social services.
During fiscal year of 2010 - 2011, our free clinic documented providing services to 372 women and 248 men. More than 170 new patients were seen by clinic staff over the twelve month period. On average, 50-60 people a month were served through the pharmaceutical assistance program (PAP). These are chronic care patients who see Barry Community Free Clinic as their medical home and count on us to help them manage their conditions to reduce complications and increase quality of life.
Grants & Fundraisers
How can we provide free services? Of course, using volunteers means we have a pretty small payroll—which is covered by a grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Pennock Hospital generously provides our space, so we don’t have to worry about rent, either. But we do have some of the same expenses as other businesses: telephone and internet, paper, files, computers, software, medical supplies and equipment, stamps and ink, to name a few.
To help assist in covering additional costs, our clinic holds fundraising events throughout the year. We also rely heavily on charitable donations. Annual fundraisers include our End of the Year Individual Campaign and our Breaking Barriers 5K Riverside Run each June.
